A: Hello Ahmad you look a bet sleepy.
B: Well, I was awake most of last night. It's Ramadan, you know.
A: Ramadan? Tell me more. It lasts for a month, doesn't it?
B: Yes, it does. Actually, Ramadan is the name of the ninth month of the Islamic year. All Muslims fast during the day of the whole month; we don't eat or drink until after dark.
A: It sounds difficult, why do you do it?
B: Well, for several reasons, but mainly to help us remember our obedience to Allah.
A: I see. But you didn't fast the whole of Ramadan last year, did you?
B: No I didn't. That is because I was ill. If you are ill, you don’t have to fast, you can do it later when you are well again.
A: Something special happens at the end of Ramadan, doesn't it?
B: That's right it does. That is a big celebration it called Eid Alfitr. It's a lot of fun and it exciting for children because they receive gifts.

A: Stars, planets and the moon all shine at night. Why do they all shine?
B: Well, there are different reasons. Stars like the sun produce and radiate their own light. On the other hand, planets like Earth, and their satellites, like our moon, don't have their own light. Planets and satellites only reflect light.
A: You say stars radiate their own light but the moon only reflects light. So why is the moon brighter than the stars?
B: The moon is brighter because it is much closer to us than the stars. The stars are really very far away.
A: If you look in the sky at night, you can often see a lot of stars. How many stars are there in the sky?
B: Well, scientists say there are 100 billion stars in our galaxy, but we can only see some of them.
A: What does galaxy mean?
B: A galaxy is a very large group of stars. There are millions of galaxies in the universe, but we aren't able to see them.
A: Do you think life exists anywhere else in the universe?
B: I don’t know. Nobody can know for sure.

A: We are in Malaysia in the middle of a new agricultural project. I'm talking to a Malaysian agricultural expert called John Lim. John; tell us something about this project?
B: Well, since 1969 we have changed thousands of hectares of jungle into new rubber plantations.
A: Yes, I can see the labourers hard at work. Why have you done that?
B: As you know, the raw material for rubber comes from trees and Malaysia has the best climate in the world for rubber trees. We wanted to increase production.
A: You have certainly done that, but hasn't it been expensive?
B: Yes, it has. And we didn't have all the money ourselves. We had to have financial help. Fortunately, we got this from the wealthy countries of the Arabian Peninsula or we couldn't have done it.
A: Ah. You have had Arab Aid?
B: Yes, we have. It is enabled us to increase production and give homes and work to around 7.500 needy families.
